Abu Dhabi. Many of our carpet ideas begin on the road — in a desert patio, a palace hall or a market floor.

Every carpet begins somewhere — in the genius loci of the place, in its architecture and history, or in something seen on a journey. For private interiors the pieces are hand-woven in New Zealand wool and silk and dyed to our own colour plan.

We design custom carpets for almost every hotel we work with. There we use a more affordable print technology, which allows large-scale motifs to run through lobbies and long corridors while keeping the budget in balance.

Bespoke carpets that begin with a journey, a place and its genius loci.

Every carpet design begins somewhere inspiring — most often in the places we travel to, and always in the genius loci of the space it is made for. The idea for this collection took shape in a desert patio outside Abu Dhabi, where layered rugs turned open sand into a room. The "Ritarit" (Knights) carpet started from the magnificent halls of Blenheim Palace. It brings together the family coats of arms of the client's lineage, our own fascination with history, and the architectural history and background of the building — a baroque castle. The pattern carries nuances of Renaissance, Rococo and Baroque, and repeats the tones of the room itself. All carpets are hand-woven from New Zealand wool and silk, and dyed to our own specification.

Custom printed carpets for lobby, corridors and restaurant.

We design bespoke carpets for almost every hotel we work with. In hotel projects we use a more affordable print technology, which allows large-scale, photographic motifs across long corridors and public floors while keeping the budget in balance. These examples are from Långvik Wellness & Congress Hotel: two different corridor and lobby carpets, where oversized blossoms drift along the floor like a slow path through the building, and a restaurant carpet where the pattern continues in a quieter, more graphic key.

A carpet born from a painting

Private interior with the hand-woven carpet, olive sofa and a painting by Riitta Nelimarkka

For this private client the starting point for the design and the colours was Riitta Nelimarkka’s beautiful painting.

The wall colours, the furnishing, the carpet and the art were meant to blend in together from the very beginning — one palette carried from the canvas onto the floor and the walls.

Woven by hand

Each piece is knotted by hand in New Zealand wool and silk, and dyed to our own colour plan — a process that takes months from the first drawing to the finished floor.
